Alebachew Fasil Ashagre

Alebachew Fasil Ashagre, MSc PhD Candidate | Clinical Chemist | Lecturer | Researcher I am a PhD candidate and research assistant at the University of Adelaide, Australia, and a research affiliate at the University of Sydney, where I oversee the processing of clinical samples integral to my doctoral research. My current work integrates advanced clinical chemistry methodologies with public health frameworks. My PhD project encompasses a systematic review and meta-analysis, longitudinal community-based cohort data, and a randomised controlled trial (RCT) investigating testosterone intervention. Central to this research is the exploration of the bidirectional relationship between sex hormones and systemic inflammation. I serve as a Lecturer and Clinical Chemist at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, within the Department of Clinical Chemistry, School of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences. Over the past decade, I have accumulated extensive experience in both academic and clinical environments, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising research projects, and contributing to the delivery of community-based health services. I hold an MSc in Clinical Chemistry (2017) and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science, both from the University of Gondar. I graduated top of my MSc degree with a CGPA of 3.80/4.00. My professional development has been enriched by international training in molecular diagnostics, laboratory quality management systems, and bioinformatics, including participation in the Global One Health Summer Institute at The Ohio State University. My research portfolio includes a growing number of peer-reviewed publications indexed in PubMed, with thematic concentrations on diabetes, infectious diseases, chronic kidney disease, and biomarkers of non-communicable diseases. I have presented my work at national conferences and was awarded a competitive research grant to examine COVID-19 awareness among traditional healers and religious leaders in Ethiopia. In addition to my research and teaching roles, I am committed to academic leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration. I hold a Higher Diploma in Teaching Methodology and have coordinated clinical placement programs for senior medical laboratory students. I am particularly recognized for my cross-cultural communication skills and my ability to foster effective collaborations across institutional and geographic boundaries.
