Kristina Rhee

Kristina Rhee is a dedicated medical student at Macquarie University, bringing a rich tapestry of experiences from psychology, healthcare management, and scientific research to her current pursuits. She commenced her academic journey with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Western Sydney University in 2006. Post-graduation, Kristina co-founded the Gordon Family Medical Practice in 2013 alongside her husband, Dr. Charles Rhee, where she served as Practice Manager until the practice’s sale in 2017. Driven by a passion for science and medicine, Kristina pursued a Bachelor of Medical Science at Macquarie University, graduating in 2021. Followed by a Bachelor of Philosophy in 2022. During her studies, she engaged in research within Associate Professor Yuling Wang’s lab, participating in two Vacation Research Scholarships. Her academic excellence was recognised with the Macquarie University Award for Academic Excellence and the Thermo Fisher Scientific Prize for outstanding performance in a 3000-level biological or molecular science unit in 2021. Her first first author paper Nanosupernova: A New Anisotropic Nanostructure for SERS (2023) has been cited 19 times as of July 2025. Beyond academia, Kristina contributed to the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP) and other science outreach initiatives at Macquarie University, both as a volunteer and in paid roles. She also served as a casual academic demonstrator, sharing her knowledge and experience with fellow students. At medical school she has held many role in various medical societies including the Macquarie University Medicine Society, Macquarie University Critical Care Society, and Macquarie University Surgical Society.
